Maundy Thursday

The name for this day comes from the Latin word for commandment; on this night, Jesus gave the disciples the new commandment: to love one another. He washed their feet and shared the last supper with them, before he was arrested later that night. We commemorate this day with holy communion. At the end of the services, we “strip the altar”: as all glory was taken from Jesus at his arrest, we take all glory and décor away from the altar.
